"Listen To Your Mother" ~ A Series of Live Readings by Local Writers in Celebration of Mother’s Day.

May 7, 2013

When I heard about a show celebrating motherhood, I was strangely drawn to being a part of it. I don’t consider myself the “Donna Reed” type in any sense of the word. In fact, I often joke that the reason I don’t have any plants in the house is because I can barely keep my children alive. So why be drawn to a motherhood show?

Because being a mother or not being a mother can define a woman. Being a GOOD mother or not can define us. And HAVING a good mother, a crappy mother, or no mother can define us as well. There are so many motherhood stories that need to be told. So many that need to be heard. So I signed on to produce a local show for Wilmington, DE.

The national show, Listen To Your Mother, is a series of live readings by local writers in celebration of Mother’s Day. Born of the creative work of mothers who publish online, each production is directed, produced and performed by local communities, for local communities.

But it’s so much more.

It’s a chance to experience something incredibly meaningful on Mother’s Day.

A show, at The Queen Theatre. A timeless, electric, incredible stage. 16 women, each with a different viewpoint and story about motherhood and what it means to them…..loving your mother, becoming your mother, missing your mother, taking care of your mother….and then the being a mother….the heartache, the joy, the sweet, delicious sorrow. Teachers, working moms, stay at home moms, a mom who’s also a rabbi, a Junior League president, a former fashion designer, a journalist. Your mom. Your friend. Your sister. You. Me.

This year, you have a chance to experience Mother’s Day like you never have before. Dinner and a show, while women just like you rock the mic. Join WSTW’s Nancy Johnson, Delaware’s Funniest Woman and stand-up comic Shari Short, West Chester Story Slam winners Terry Heyman and Luann Sims, as well as so many other amazing local writers and authors as they give motherhood a voice.

Dinner available for purchase. 6pm – 8pm Tickets on sale at http://www.LTYMDE.com/tix. Not appropriate for children under 13. Seriously.
