Monday Tips for Busy Moms: Rt. 202 Construction

May 9, 2011
by Jennifer Worthington Lower

I am sure that you have noticed the lovely uneven pavement along sections of Route 202 and occasional scheduled lane closures. I had been made aware of the lane closures that were scheduled for this past weekend by a coworker who knew that many of us traveled that particular portion of 202. I had otherwise been unaware of the extended plans to accommodate the increasing congestion.

PennDOT intends to improve the conditions of Rout 202 between the 252 interchange in Tredyffrin, to just north of 401 in East Whiteland. I don’t know about you, but I have been on that stretch quite a few times in rush hour traffic and it needs some improving. They also plan on widening to three lanes in each direction.

I certainly do not look forward to the times ahead, as I travel 202 quite a bit (I think we all do), but the work needs to be done. Chester County is expanding in population and we need to have roadways that accommodate that growth.

Here is what’s currently taking place:

May 7-13, traveling south on 202 between Chesterbrook and 401, lane closures will occur between 10pm and 5am due to continuing drain pipe installation.

The lane and ramp closures between route 100 and route 3 (West Chester Pike) for this past weekend were postponed and will be rescheduled. Construction will resume during the week.

To check up on details and scheduling of the upcoming construction you can log on to 511pa.com or dial 511 on any phone. You can also follow PennDOT on Twitter @522PAPhilly

I’m sure the summer holds plenty of new and exciting adventures while traveling the roads in Chester and the surrounding counties. Tis the road work season.

Happy trails!
