10 Things to Do Inside with Your Toddler When You Can’t Go Outside because it’s just too cold!!!!!
Hi, my name is Stefanie and I love being a stay-at-home Mom to my 19-month old son named Aiden. This is my first time contributing to this blog and I’m excited to share all that I’ve learned being a Mom for the first time. If your toddler is anything like mine, he/she loves playing outside and is very active. Aiden still asks me to go outside several times a day but it’s just too cold sometimes and we can’t stay out very long. Consequently, I’ve have to get creative in coming up with fun activities to do inside.
Here is a list of 10 things Aiden loves to do inside and I hope your child will have fun with them too!
1. Aiden loves to play with his parachute. He lies down on it and I pull him around like it’s a sled. If you don’t have a parachute, any big blanket will do. This is also a great workout for you (I know, as if you need one with a toddler to chase after all day). He also likes for me to put the blanket/parachute on my head and pretend I’m a monster and then he chases me around. It’s hysterical!!!
2. Buy a blowup pool and put lots of colorful balls in it. It’s a cheap way to make a ball pit. We put our slide in our ball pit and Aiden has a great time crashing into the balls!
3. Put on your toddler’s favorite song on a CD or DVD and get instruments and march around. Aiden likes to march around the island in our kitchen.
4. My newest discovery: Window Crayons!!! Aiden has fun drawing all over the windows with these crayons that are especially made for the windows and wash right off. I got mine at K-Mart but they probably have them at lots of similar department stores.
5. Get out the play-doh! Aiden asks to play with it every single day. I bought Disney cookie cutters at a thrift shop and he loves to cut out different characters. He also likes making snakes out of it, holding them up to me, and saying, “Rarrrrr!”
6. Play Ring Around the Rosy. It’s a classic children’s song that never gets old. Aiden smiles every time he falls down at the end. We also do this with the parachute when we have some friends over and the kids lie down in the middle and the adults pull them around in circle. Very fun!
7. Decorate cookies! I buy the pre-made sugar cookie dough and bake them first. Then, I put out tiny bowls of different kinds of sprinkles. I help him with the icing but he does the rest. I was so surprised when Aiden first did this. He was much, much neater than I ever expected. He had a blast decorating them and then gobbling them down!
8. Play a good game of chase. I chase Aiden around the house and he likes to hide behind the curtain. I pretend I can’t see him and he giggles and then I catch him and hold him upside down. It tires both of us out but it’s fun.
9. Stack blocks up really high and then knock them over with trucks, cars, etc.
10. When in doubt, pop in a Wiggles DVD! Haha, I know they recommend not watching t.v. until age 2 but let’s be realistic! I think whoever made that rule definitely was not a stay-at-home mom in the winter. We all have those days…plus, Aiden loves the Wiggles and they are a staple in our household.
Well, stay warm everyone and I hope you enjoy doing these activities with your kiddies:)
