Intro to Golf Class at Play-a-Round Golf for FREE!

October 24, 2011

FORE! I have always wanted to do that, fortunately and unfortunately at Play-a-Round Golf you won’t ever need to! I was never a golfer, never really understood the sport, other than much like many others, you have to hit the ball. The thought of getting the ball into this little tiny hole was so frustrating to me. Until now! I had the opportunity to go to Play-a-Round Golf and get a lesson and it turns out, this sport is really fun. I can totally see why so many people love the game! It is great for the family, friends and colleagues to get out and play together!

To start, as I walked into the facility, I felt like I was in a prestigious golf club when in fact, it occupies the facility next to Carrabba’s Italian Restaurant on Route 30 (245 Lancaster Avenue) in Malvern. I was given a tour of the facility and learned that there are seven simulator stations and a “classroom” area for lessons. They host all kinds of parties, bachelor (bachelorette) parties, camps (indoor and outdoor) meetings and fundraisers. You can order food from Carrabba’s and it will be delivered to your table/area, you can get food from many of the other shops around Play-a-Round Golf or if you would like you can bring in your own food. They also allow you to bring beer or wine, sorry no hard liquor. You are there to have a good time or work on your game of golf and that is what it is all about!

On to the game! I had a great instructor, Josh, who was awesome. Most of the instructors are LPGA or PGA certified. So, I walked into the “classroom” area where they have special clubs and learning tools for each beginner. If you are a beginner, you are first taught through SNAG (R) (Starting New at Golf). The clubs and other equipment are much like the real ones, but they are to help you get feel of how to play correctly before playing with really equipment. I have never played golf, other than miniature golf so I was a real beginner! My first lesson was all about learning the basics such as how to hold the club correctly, the correct stance and how to swing without too much power! I still need lots of practice, but with time and the correct training I believe I would be ready to make it onto the golf course without any problems and have a competitive game with friends or family. At one point, we moved into one of the simulator stations. You could choose one of many courses to play on and make it just like you were playing outside! The simulator works through doppler radar and special effects to help improve your game. The concept of indoor golf is great, so many people play all the time, but with our weather the way that it is, this is a great way to keep up with the sport all year long! If I were to sign up for Beginner Golf Lessons , I would follow a schedule for the next 6 weeks going over each part of golf basics in detail and eventually move out of the SNAG(R) clubs and transition into real clubs!
