Have questions about Special Education and IEPs? 

Do you have questions or concerns about your child’s Special Education program or IEP? Is your child getting the supports and services that you believe he/she needs to be successful? All workshops are free of charge to the community. Bring any IEPs or evaluation reports you have, and your questions Come to one or come to them all.

March 14, 6 PM – 8 PM: Overview of the special education process and the six principles of special education including FAPE, LRE, parent participation, evaluations, individualization and Procedural Safeguards.

 March 23, 9 AM – noon: How to read your child’s evaluations and know if it’s comprehensive, how evaluations determine level of services in IEP and ESY.

April 4, 6 PM- 8 PM: The IEP:Your child’s present levels, strengths and needs-do they reflect your child? Understanding goals and objectives, and parental input.

April 18, 6 PM – 8 PM: The IEP: Specially Designed Instruction (SDI), related services, progress monitoring; are the supports and accommodations your child is getting adequate?

May 2, 6 PM – 8 PM: Transition to adult living-will your child have the skills to live, work and play independently as an adult? Or successfully pursue post-secondary education?

May 16, 6 PM – 8 PM: How does Special Education address behavior and discipline issues? Date TBD: Procedural safeguards and what to do if you disagree with proposed IEP or placement.
