Philadelphia Eagles Youth Football Camp in Chester County

June 23, 2011

Philadelphia Eagles Youth Football Camps offer comprehensive, non-contact football instruction for kids ages 6-14. These camps are led by professional educators and coaches with supplemental instruction from Eagles Heroes such as Garry Cobb, Sean Landeta, Frank LeMaster, Joe Pagliei, Vince Papale and others. Kids learn to throw, catch, defend, form block, form tackle and explode out of a stance with proper technique and improved speed. Equally important is the emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship, self-esteem, good health and fitness.

Chester County Moms Game Day Fun Craft….Football Centerpiece

February 5, 2010

Setting up a party for the big game? Dress up your table with the fun football centerpiece. Choose a variety of colors like we did, or cater the colors to your favorite or to the two teams playing in the biggest night in football! This is a great craft project for kids to do on Saturday before the “Big Game”

Sites like Kaboose.com are a go to for easy crafts and recipes. Take time out to check out some football fun including printable activities, recipes for the big game and more!

What you’ll need:
7” paper plate
4 cardboard tubes
Handful of pebbles or pennies
2-3 sheets of brown construction paper
10 glittery chenille stems, cut in half
1 gold glittery chenille stem, cut in half
Green and white acrylic paint
1 thin point paintbrush
1 wide paintbrush
Clear shipping tape
Scissors
Pencil

How to make it:
1. Use a pencil to trace around one of the cardboard tubes in the center of the paper plate. (See image.) Cut out the circle in the center of the plate.
2. Paint the plate with green paint and set aside to dry.
3. Tape the four cardboard tubes together, one on top of the other, to create one long tube.
4. Cut four 1.5” long slits in one of the end tubes.
5. Use a thin paintbrush and white paint to add goal line numbers around the outer edge of the plate (10, 20, 30, etc), then paint white lines between each number. The lines should go from the rim of the plate toward the center. Paint a white line around the outer edge of the center hold.

6. Allow to dry.
7. Cover the tube with brown construction paper, leaving only the slits that you cut uncovered. 8. Secure with tape.
9. Have a grown-up use a pen, the end of the scissors or a pointed toothpick to poke twenty holes through the construction paper and the tubes. If you have trouble poking through the tubes because of tape, just poke through the paper. You want the holes to be spaced an inch or two apart and offset.
10. Insert the tube into the hole in the center of the plate, inserting the end of the tube that you just cut the slits in.
11. Once the tube is inside the center hole of the plate, turn over and fold the flaps outward, creating a petal-like look. (See image.) Turn over to be sure your cuts were even, tube and plate should stand up straight. If tube is leaning, adjust the flaps until straight. Use tape to secure the flaps to the back of the plate.
12. Cut twenty 3” footballs from the brown construction paper.
13. Add lines and stitches to the footballs with white paint and let dry.
14. Tape a chenille stem to the back of each football.
15. Insert the other end of the chenille stems into the holes in the tube. (See image.) If you encounter a hole that didn’t go through the tube, simply slide the chenille into the hole and it will disappear between the paper and the tube. You can also trim the chenille if they appear too long and reinsert.
16. Take the remaining gold chenille stem that was cut in half. Bend one half into a goal post. 17. Bend the other half in two and wrap the center point around the middle of the goal post to create the stand. Twist around a few times to create a sturdy stand and then bend the ends (if turned upside down it will look like a goal post again!). Insert the “legs” of the stand into the top of the tube between the tube and the paper.

Chester County Moms Game Day Fun Recipe….Mini Football Subs

February 5, 2010

You can expect a high number of interceptions when you pass these individual-size meatball sandwiches during halftime festivities.

Ingredients:
Meatballs
Spaghetti sauce
Shredded Cheese
Individual-size rolls

Instructions:
To make a batch, first prepare your favorite meatball recipe, shaping each meatball into a mini football before cooking. Once they’re cooked, add the meatballs to a skillet of spaghetti sauce and warm them through.

For each sub, cut a V-shaped notch from the top of an individual-size roll, place a meatball in the roll, and top with cheese shred laces. Finally, get the sandwiches in a huddle on a cookie sheet and place them in a warm oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese.

Chester County Moms Game Day Fun Recipe…Football turnovers

February 4, 2010

When you pass these mouth-watering snacks during the game, you can expect more than a few interceptions.

Ingredients:
1 (15-ounce) box refrigerated piecrusts (two 9-inch crusts)
1/2 pound meatballs, cooked
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Milk for glaze

Instructions :
To make a batch, first set out the crusts to bring them to room temperature (about 15 minutes) and heat the oven to 375 degrees. Meanwhile, cut the meatballs into small pieces, then place them in a small saucepan with the tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes. Let the mixture cool thoroughly.
One at a time, place each crust on lightly floured waxed paper and use a floured rolling pin to flatten it slightly into a 10-inch circle. Use a biscuit cutter to cut seven 4-inch circles from the dough, then reroll the dough scraps to get 3 more dough circles.
Spoon 1 tablespoon of filling onto half of each circle, leaving about a 1/2-inch margin at the edge, then sprinkle on about 1/2 teaspoon of Parmesan cheese. Use your fingertips to moisten the edges of the dough with water, then fold the uncovered half of the dough over the filling and press the edges together to seal. Crimp the edge with a fork, then transfer the turnovers to a lightly greased baking sheet and poke each one twice with a fork for vents.

Brush each one with milk, then bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer to a rack to cool. Serve warm or at room temperature. Makes 20 small turnovers.

“Big Game Day” games for kid’s

Chester County Moms Game Day Fun…"Big Game Day" games for kid’s….

February 2, 2010

This Sunday fans young and old will gather together to watch the Colts & The Saints play in the Superbowl. Keep your little fans entertained and bring the thrill of the gridiron to your living room wall with this pigskin version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey.

What You Need:
Poster board (yellow, black or white)
Brown card stock for footballs
White opaque paint marker or white paper strips glued on as “laces”
Tape or poster tacks
Blindfold

Instructions:
For the game pieces, first create a goal post from two-inch-wide strips of poster board. (The uprights and the crossbar are each 20 inches long, and the post is 6 inches tall.) We attached ours to the wall using tape.

For the footballs, cut 5-inch-long shapes out of brown card stock. We found some in the scrapbook aisle of our craft store that looks like football leather. Use a white paint marker to decorate and add players’ names to the footballs. Don’t have a paint maker.. a black marker or white crayon works too. Put a blob of tape on the back of each one.

Players line up about six feet away from the goal. One at a time, each player is blindfolded, spun around three times by another person, and set loose to try to stick their football between the uprights. (No reaching out your empty hand to feel the wall.) Play several rounds with 3 points awarded for each field goal. Highest score wins.

Hit the dollar store for football inspired prizes or go simple with something like coloring books You can also offer chip or pretzel snack bags as prizes…chips & pretzels. Doesn’t get anymore football than that!
