For those of you that don’t live in Delaware County you may not of heard of Freedom Playground, but I hope after reading this you make the journey whether it’s near or far, so you can see for yourself what an amazing place we have here for children of ALL abilities.
Freedom Playground is a state of the art, custom‐built play structure which caters to children of all abilities and needs. Made primarily from composite lumber, it gives ALL children 100% accessibility to all areas of the play structure. A project that started in November 2008 has come to fulfillment with the help of community volunteers and generous donors; the committee has raised over $370,000.00. I think that is truly amazing and makes me smile to think that if you want something bad enough..you WILL get the job done!
Under the guidance of the Ithaca, NY architectural firm, Leathers & Associates, Freedom Playground was built in a barn‐raising style build from April 19‐25, 2010 with the help of over 2,000 community volunteers. Freedom Playground will be owned by the township and open and free to the public 365 days a year, from dawn to dusk.
