AB Negative Blood Doners & Platelet Donors Wanted to help Chester County Toddler with Lukemia

November 9, 2010

Chesco Mom Sarah’s neighbor, a Chester County toddler (1 year old) has been recently diagnosed with APML (Lukemia). He has a rare blood type – AB Negative and his parents are asking anyone able to donate with AB Negative, to visit the nearest American Red Cross Donation Center and give blood. Reference: Kieran Dowds. The blood banks are running low on AB Negative blood and any donations are greatly appreciated. If your donation doesn’t find its way to Kieran know that there are many other AB Negative patients that are also in need.
Little Kieran is also in need of platelets because they help the blood coagulate, and he will experience a lot of bleeding as the leukemia develops and the chemo is injected. Giving platelets is more involved than giving blood. The donor is hooked to a machine that extracts both blood and platelets. It’s about a 2 hour process and will leave a big black and blue mark. We want you to be aware of that if you don’t already know that fact.
If you are compatible, and would like to help by donating platelets please complete the form below and we will get you in touch with the family. The information you submit will be saved in our secure database.
