June is a fun month at the Please Touch Museum!

June 7, 2010

On Friday, my daughters and I attended the kickoff celebration for the Please Touch Museum’s 10th Annual ABC Games. The ABC Games exhibit (in the Rainforest Rhythm Gallery) celebrates learning through active play for more than 3 weeks, through Sunday, June 27th.
Activities for the 10th Annual ABC Games, presented by US Airways, encourage an interest in physical fitness and sportsmanship and build self-confidence. A nature-inspired obstacle course weaves its way through the gallery, while a rock climbing wall provides a challenge for little climbers. A variety of additional play options test kids’ coordination, as well as fine and gross motor skills in a unique festival of physical fun.
My daughter is posing on one of the mini stationary bikes, which she loved, in the picture to the right. I have to say that the pint-sized treadmills were my favorite … it was so adorable to watch these kids walk on the little foot-powered incline having so much fun and getting their hearts pumping in the meantime. My older daughter enjoyed the rock climbing wall, but her favorites were the balance beams. She walked back and forth over those balance beams at least 50 times. And, I loved that we were smiling and laughing all while getting our bodies and muscles moving!
The ABC Games is part of the Please Touch Museum’s Healthy Lifestyles initiative, “Get Up and Grow.” Another exciting initiative in this program is the 1st Annual Stroller in the Park event, a 5K familiy-oriented walk/run in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park happening on August 29th.
In addition to the ABC Games, another must-do June event is the Please Touch Museum’s Silly Swap Weekend on June 12th and 13th! The museum invites your kids to come on out to swap your silly band with kids from all over the area (especially since they likely aren’t able to at school anymore). And, THE FIRST 500 KIDS THROUGH THE DOOR ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY GET A FREE 12-PACK OF THE SHAPED RUBBER BRACELETS!
I got a few minutes to chat with Frank Luzi, the Director of Media Relations at the Please Touch Museum, and he told us a little bit more about the museum’s awesome June events!
My daughters and I had a great day at the Please Touch Museum. If you are looking for something fun to do on these long summer days coming up, I highly suggest this being your go-to spot!
*My family and I were provided complimentary admission to the Please Touch Museum to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.
