Couponing for a Cause

November 18, 2011

The trick to couponing isn’t just having the coupons and using them, but rather knowing when to use them. For most of us, we can pick up a Sunday paper, clip a few coupons, and save $5-10 a week on our grocery bills. But, wouldn’t it be nice to consistently get items for free and save 60% or more on your total bill?

One way to make your coupons work for you is to follow the weekly match ups. This is where you will find the best deals by matching coupons with sale items. Different stores have different coupon policies about the number of coupons you can us, doubling/tripling a coupon, and stacking. Make sure you are familiar with your store’s coupon policy so that you can take advantage of the best deals.

When you follow the grocery store sales and match ups, you will often see that there are products that you can get for free. From toothpaste and deodorant, to pasta and rice. There is almost always at least one freebie that you can get each week at the grocery store.

This is when we get to flex our couponing muscle and Coupon for a Cause!

Check out the weekly grocery store and drugstore match ups on Raising A Family On A Budget. When you see that you can get an item for free with a coupon, pick it up, even if it is something that your family will not use. Keep a box or shopping bag in the closet where you can put all of your freebies and before long you will have a very generous donation.

And while you are putting together your donation, let’s talk turkey. Many families don’t cook Thanksgiving dinner at their own home, yet they earn a free turkey at the grocery store. Please consider donating your free turkey to help another family be able to celebrate Thanksgiving this year.
