Introducing Chris Harmon, local clay artist, mom of four and owner of the Pottery Place in Downingtown

October 5, 2012

The Pottery Place is a paint your own Pottery Studio and also a clay studio. It is located inside of United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, PA.

I recently had a chance to sit down with Chris Harmon, the owner of the studio and learn a little about her and the studio. Chis, was an art major at West Chester University, studying studio art/three dimensional design. She is a clay artist and loves teaching adults and children about clay and how to work with it.

When her four sons were young, they were involved in various sports and her and her husband spent many hours at USTC watching games and waiting out practices… always chasing around after the youngest one who was into everything… so this gave her the idea for opening The Pottery Place. Chris thought there needed to be something fun for the sibling to do while waiting for his/her older sibling to finish practice. She was welcomed warmly by the staff at USTC and the rest is history. Chris says “paint your own pottery reaches out to the artist in all of us. There is always someone on hand to help out with ideas and color choices should you need it”.

The clay studio is open to those who don’t mind getting a bit messy but want to try their hand at making something from scratch. There are 3 pottery wheels for those of you who want to take it to the next level.

The Pottery Place welcomes families and children of all ages! Visit harmonpottery.com for more information about Mom’s Night Out events, family nights, children’s story time,  scouting badge opportunities, birthday parties and in-service day workshops.

The prices are reasonable and the atmospheres is relaxed, so stop by and browse, and have fun creating a one of a kind piece of pottery.
