Let’s Talk Turkey

November 9, 2010

Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching, and now’s the time to start thinking about where you’re going to get your turkey. There’s no reason to buy factory farmed turkey at the grocery store when you live in Chester County. There are turkeys happily grazing on farms all around us!

Did you know that Chester County is the second largest food producing county in our state, second only to Lancaster County? Let’s take advantage of this decadent bounty! Check out Eat Local Philly to find a farm near you that is selling fresh, locally raised, pastured turkeys for Thanksgiving.

And don’t stop buying local now that there’s frost on the ground. Farmers’ markets may be closing up shop for the winter, but many have winter ordering markets.

The Farmers Market at Great Valley and the Anselma Market will have winter pick up on Wednesdays between 4:30 and 6:00 pm at the Mill at Anselma. You can place your order each week via phone or email. See their site for complete instructions and schedule.

Many other CSAs and farmers markets have winter ordering markets as well. Check out Eat Local Philly to find one near you.
