One of my very favorite things to do on the weekends is visit the dog park with my family and “Big Doggie. My four legged son loves the dog park and gets so excited when he sees us pack up the water jug, towels, tennis balls and “Chuck It”.
We have a Golden Retriever and don’t leave home without our trusty “Chuck- It”, ball chucker. I am quite sure that without it my arm would have fallen off a year ago from over use (Golden’s LOVE to fetch)
Below are a few of the dog parks that we like to go to…
Tennis Ball Park on Rt. 100, West Chester (That isn’t the official name, but that is what I call it). If your dog is a ball chaser then this park will be his own little doggy heaven. Located next to the Wawa on Rt. 100 (intersection of Rt. 100 & Greenhill Rd.) and a Skate Park is a completely fenced and shaded park with seating for the humans. It is mostly dirt, but has a small grassy area. There isn’t any water at this park so make sure to bring a container of water – your pup will be sure to work up a thirst chasing ball after ball after ball after ball.
Lloyd Avenue Dog Park, Downingtown: Lloyd Avenue Park in Downingtown has a designated place for your dog to run free and even take a dip in Beaver Creek. The entrance to the dog park is at the back of the parking lot. The park is not enclosed but, woods surround the outside perimeter. There are a few benches in the park for the humans and even a porta potty. The entry has two gates to allow time to dry off and leash your dog prior to heading back to the car. This park has a separate playground for children. Dogs are not permitted in the playground area.
* If your dog is a swimmer, I recommend dressing in shorts and water shoes. You may have to pull doggy out of the creek and don’t want to have to do that in your Sunday best.
**Make sure to bring towels to dry your dog off after they are done playing at the dog park.. if they go in the creek. They will be muddy! Trust me!
Take a Hike!
Dogs are allowed on the trails at Valley Forge National Historic Park, Hibernia County Park and Marsh Creek State Park as long as they are on a leash.
