Similac SimplySmart Bottle Review

June 7, 2012

Alana, our third daughter, was born on April 30th. Another beautiful, precious, and HUNGRY baby girl. She took to nursing right away, thank goodness. But I think I “conveniently” forgot the unbelievable amount of pain those first few weeks bring! In between feedings I pumped to get some relief. It seems, Miss A, has quite the insatiable appetite, so no milk has been stored, it’s all used! With the two older sisters wanting to be little-Mommy’s, this worked out great… bottle feeders!

We had 3 kinds of bottles here already, I am not kidding, and none really were winners with Alana. My favorite kind didn’t cause fussiness, but it dribbled out the side of her mouth, so I guess the nipple wasn’t the right fit for her. Then we were contacted by a Similac rep to test out their new Similac SimplySmart bottle. I was mailed an 8 ounce BPA free bottle, along with the Powder Cap (I’ll get into that more in a minute), to test out. Ta-da, this one works great! I guess since Similac has 85 years of feeding expertise and feedback from more than 2,500 moms, they figured something out that would work. I am happy to report that there were no leaks, bubbles, fussiness or gas (other than the normal poop explosion every 3 minutes—- so it seems). The SimplySmart system has a nipple that is shaped similar to the breast and then they have this cool venting system called “Intellivent” that helps with the amount of air Alana would take in… hence the no fussiness or gas! The best part, especially when handing a bottle of breastmilk off to a 3.5 year old, is “SmartClose”. There’s a handy blue shield that shows up when the top is properly secured which means no leaking in transport or feeding!!!

Because I haven’t used formula yet, I didn’t get to use the EasyMix or Powder Cap features.
Here’s what they are though:
·EasyMix™: This innovative mixing device is only found in Similac SimplySmart and is designed to help reduce bubbles and clumps.
·Similac On-the-Go™ Powder Cap: A unique cap keeps powder and bottle together and holds enough powder formula for up to one 8-ounce bottle to help busy moms on the go. Cap sold separately. So glad to add this fourth type of bottle to our cabinet, especially knowing how well it has worked!!!

“Disclosure: I received a free Similac SimplySmart bottle compliment of the Similac brand. No monetary exchange took place.”

When photos are MORE than just photos: Little Nest Portraits

September 17, 2010
Little Nest Pennsylvania & Delaware Photographers for Child and Baby Portraits
I’ve been really honored over the last few weeks to get to know the women behind Little Nest Portraits located in the Glen Eagle Square shopping center in Glen Mills, PA. You may even remember meeting their Studio Manager, Lindsay, at our Baby Shower Extravaganza in June and getting to see some of the amazing products that Little Nest offers. They are just an amazing group of people offering some amazing services.
For those of you not familiar with Little Nest, I think that this definition from their website says it better than I ever could:
1. authentic family portraits that are natural, fresh and fun 2. convenient for the busy family 3. amazing product selection offering great value 4. creative, quality images from trained photographic artists 5. A great experience for children of all ages
Based on my conversations with Laura (Owner) and Lindsay (Studio Manager), I knew that I HAD to have my family photographed by one of their amazing photographers. We set up an appointment and I awaited the date very anxiously. It had been years since our last family photo…. so long, in fact, that our youngest child doesn’t even appear in the last ones 🙂
Finally our appointment rolled around and we were all very excited to get our pictures taken. I was happy with how our casual and relaxed, but coordinating outfits looked together and my kids looked particularly adorable this day.
See, aren’t they cute?
When we walked into the studio we were warmly welcomed by our photographer, Alison and she showed us into their BEAUTIFUL photo space. The huge windows in the studio allow for an abundance of natural light in the room and they have gorgeous backdrops and props that range from vintage all the way to thoroughly modern.
I was worried about how my youngest daughter would do during the session. She REFUSES to smile in pictures as a general rule. So, I got myself prepared ahead of time that smiling pictures weren’t going to happen and I just got OK with having this little phase of her life being documented as she is. However, I didn’t need to worry. Alison immediately clicked with my kids and got them laughing and smiling and being super silly in no time. I feel like Alison really “got” my kids and used lots of tricks to get them to respond to her (unbeknown to them!).
Alison got plenty of shots of both of the kids together and of each one individually. She then did several family shots and shots of both my husband and I with the girls. She was done before my kids were even starting to feel “done” and assured us that she had gotten some quality pictures and would be in touch with us soon. I scheduled our ordering meeting and we went about our day.
Several days later, I got an email from Alison inviting me to look at a slideshow of shots from our session so that I would know what to expect at our upcoming ordering meeting. I am NOT EVEN KIDDING when I tell you that I was teary looking at the beautiful slideshow that I was now staring at on a continuous loop. Little Nest and Alison had blown me away with the gorgeousness of my little family interpreted into these digital images. I could feel our love and our personalities jumping out of the images at me and was so very thankful that Alison had captured these moments, not just some images.
I will treasure this photo always. It says everything about my relationship with my kids!
These are just a few examples of the many spectacular shots I was given to look at when I went to my ordering meeting with Alison. It was hard to choose my favorites, but with some expert coaching from Alison, I was able to narrow down my choices. I am so in love with these shots that I am actually having several images turned into wall canvases to be used as the main art feature in my family room. We have a huge wall that is empty and has been dying for something to showcase there. I’ve never found any pieces of art or decor that I really wanted for that space until now. I can’t wait for my canvases to come in and for them to be proudly hung in my home. I will be sure to update here so that I can show you what they look like on my wall!
Little Nest wants to offer all Chester County Moms readers an exclusive offer to come in and have this amazing experience for your family. If you mention the code: CHESCOMOMS, you can get a $50 credit off your purchase at your ordering meeting! This offer will expire on October 31, 2010. Book now to ensure that you are guaranteed Holiday Delivery for all of your photo products.
Be sure to also follow Little Nest on Facebook and Twitter as well as on their blog. You can always check out their website for news and their latest promotions.
We know that you will love Little Nest as much as I do. We will be offering a giveaway for Little Nest next month for our readers, so be sure to stay tuned!
I’ll leave you with two more of my favorite images from our Little Nest session.

I want to thank Little Nest for documenting these moments for us!
*Disclosure: Little Nest graciously waived our session fee and offered us a credit towards our purchases in order to facilitate this review.

Real Moms Review of Chester County Parks & Play Grounds

April 6, 2010

Woo-hoo…Sping is here! I am so excited for sunny days, warm weather and afternoons at the park.

Click here for the complete list of parks and play grounds in Chester County.

We are looking for “Real Mom Reviews” of local parks and playgrounds. The county guide we posted above is great.. but we want to put together a guide with information moms want to know.. like does your local park have a rest room? is it clean? Does the park have a toddler friendly play area and a play area for big kids too? What kind of ground cover – mulch or tire chips? running water? ample parking? …stuff like that!

Please take a few minutes to tell us a little about your favorite or least favorite park in the area. We will compile the information into a one-stop guide for all to access like we did with our Birthday Party Guide.

To enter information use the tab key or the sliding scoll bar to the right of the questionaire.

A "Real Mom Review" of The Inn at Leola Village

January 30, 2010

An overnight stay in a Whirlpool Suite at The Inn at Leola Village in Lancaster County was our Grand Finale prize at the Chester County Moms Holiday Extravaganza in December. The Inn at Leola Village is less than an hour from Exton and a member of Historic Hotels of America. The Inn is the first boutique hotel in Lancaster County to receive the prestigious and coveted AAA’s 4 Diamond Award for Hospitality and Excellence. The Inn at Leola Village has 63 guest rooms and suites….no two are exactly alike. However each room has 400 thread count linens, feather pillows and monogramed guest robes. To view photos of the guest rooms and suites click here. (I personally love, love, love the Wine Cellar Suite!) The Inn at Leola is also home to Destinations Day Spa. Click here to view the spa menu.

Chesco Mom, Karen P. was the lucky winner of the Inn at Leola Village overnight package. Karen and her husband took advantage of Karen’s big win a few weeks ago and below is her “Real Mom Review of The Inn at Leola Village“.

Our night at Leola Village Inn…

Well our husband and I have found our new “spot” to say the least. We look forward to our next visit. After winning my raffle giveaway I was fast to call and make my reservations. I was able to get the night I was hoping for with no problem. Service started with an A+ from the beginning! We arrived on Saturday January 2nd at 2:30 PM for our 3:00 PM check in time. Upon checking in we were informed that they booked the wrong room. After a few minutes and some patience, all was fixed and they were able to correct the problem immediately! We were escorted to our room and shown around the inside.

The Leola Village employee gave us a “VIP feeling” as she showed us room by room. The room was beautiful equipped with a living room area with a flat screen TV and DVD player. Two large very comfortable lounge chairs facing a romantic gas fireplace. The bedroom was large and comfortable with french doors leading directly into the HUGE Jacuzzi whirlpool!! (We escaped to this whirlpool 3 times on our one night stay!) Our room had a small kitchen area with a perfect little table for a special dinner for two. Because of this my husband and I decided to forgo our original dinner plans and cook in the room. It had a very romantic feel as we dined at the table that night. In the morning we had a very nice European continental breakfast with very friendly service.

Everything about our stay was very comfortable, very romantic and relaxing. We had a wonderful time to say the least! It did not take my husband and I long to decide we will go back for more mini getaways in the future! We absolutely loved The Inn at Leola Village and had no complaints what so ever! This was honestly better than we expected it to be! I will without a doubt recommend this place to others.

Real Mom Review of The Fun Bus…

January 28, 2010

My kid’s went to a birthday party this past weekend and the birthday mom hired one of the coolest party entertainers that I have experienced….She hired “The Fun Bus“.

The Fun Bus is a full sized school bus whose seats have all been removed and walls and floor carpeted and padded. It is a playground on wheels! The Fun Bus is great for summer & winter parties as it is air conditioned & heated.

The kid’s at the party that I was at had a blast! My daughter was being a little shy so I got to hang out in the “Fun Bus” and watch the party. I wanted to jump in and play!

Think “The Fun Bus” might be a good idea for your party? Here is what the party mom had to say about her experience with hiring “The Fun Bus”.

“We booked through the Bucks County franchise (even though we live in Chester County). The Browns own it. I would definitely recommend them. Also, if anyone calls within the next 2 weeks and mentions our party (email chestercountymoms@gmail – for info) they will give them a $40 discount. The party can be held anytime, just booked now. There is an extra charge for mileage if out of their area, which we were. Also, they will provide invites and thank you cards (I chose the coloring books instead for party favors) and a t-shirt goes to the bday child..”
