Truthfully Speaking…. With Toddlers!

December 23, 2010
Well sickness has swept through our house in many forms lately and while our moods were lacking, the wit from JT was up to snuff as usual!
As we drove around looking at Christmas lights last night JT held onto her coveted candy cane VERY tightly.  Said candy cane was found amidst one of our favorite Christmas light displays in Upper Moreland, thank you Valenzas for the fun tour of your bright yard!
Anyhow, as we drove to see less impressive yet, still brightly lit houses, JT all of a sudden yelled out, “Daddy!!! Slow Dooooowwwwwnnn, please!  You’re going to break my candy cane!”  Daddy couldn’t stop laughing, nor could I…. and we laughed even harder when we realized that a little person’s tight grip truly did cause that candy cane to break, yet she still insists it was her father’s driving!  Said candy cane is now ‘recovering’ in our refrigerator as apparently this will make it better.
And for the record, Daddy was doing the speed limit…
Hope you all have a Merry Christmas and I am quite sure you will all have some awesome Toddler Truths to giggle about, I know I have my pen and paper ready J

playmobil Large Farm: Product Review

August 24, 2010

My oldest son, Cbear, just turned 2 this summer. Until recently, he was pretty content chasing a ball or climbing just about anything. Over the past few weeks I have really begun to see his imagination start to come out through play. It is so amazing to me how he now interacts with his toys and so fun too!

I set up the playmobil Large Farm after Cbear went to sleep, and it was ready for his discovery the next morning. I loved how he ran up to the farm, shouted out a very loud, “OOOOO” and immediately started moving the pieces around. I would say his favorite part is opening and closing the windows, but he also is very fond of making the cat (or any of the animals) walk up and down the ladder. He has not quite grasped the ‘buggy’ part of the horse and buggy. Cbear also thinks the sack of potatoes is actually milk, but he lets his imagination run wild and feeds the ‘milk’ to all the animals and people on the farm so I go with it!

As a Mom, I loved how easy the set up was (no set up at all, unless you consider opening the box set up!!!) and that the sides of the farm fold up so I can easily pick up the toys to either put away or transport to another room.

From Ghost Pirates to Construction zones to Nautical Expeditions, Playmobil has a number of fun toys that I just cannot wait for Cbear and his little brother to experience.

The playmobil Large Farm set retails for $54.99 and is available now at the playmobil website and other stores.

(From Playmobil)
Recommended for ages 18 months and up, children can care for the animals and help finish chore around the Large Farm. The set includes three figures, cow, pig, lamb, dog with dog house, horse and buggy, and many other accessories to help children learn through play. The farm has a working cable winch to transport supplies up to the loft. The windows and gate of the farm can be opened and closed.

Frugal Friday Finds: Using the Chester County Library System

December 11, 2009

Lady Bird Johnson is quoted as saying “Perhaps no place in any community is so totally democratic as the town library. The only entrance requirement is interest.”

We love our local library in Phoenixville because I have one daughter who reads with avid interest, often checking out a huge stack of books she can barely carry. After enjoying the luxury of reading several entire series at the library, we visited a local bookstore. She came up to me with ten books in hand. I balked and reminded her that we had to pay for these and they were almost ten dollars each. She was allowed to buy one.

Conveniently, my daughter learned how to go online to check out books from throughout the entire Chester County library system and have them sent to Phoenixville. We are e-mailed when they arrive and are ready for pick up. If you catch them before their due date, you can even renew online.

In addition to the wonderful books the Chester County Library System provides many story time activities, after school clubs and weekend workshops. Check out the library events calendar for more information.
