Down At The Shore! 07/15/11

Coming down to the Jersey Shore for the weekend of July 15^th, here’s the 411!

The weather is going to be in the 80’s all weekend! This is perfect beach weather for playing volley ball, building a huge sand sculpture, or even just laying out.

Here’s what’s happening around town:

Atlantic City:

As always there’s a ton of adult entertainment happening; including Resorts NEW Circus, which boasts a family friendly show, as well as an adults showing at night.

Friday July 15

Wed July 20^th starts Wacky Wednesdays at the Lighthouse.

Ocean City:

On July 16^th is Ocean City’s Night in Venice – The City’s annual boat parade is one of the largest in the world. Starts at 7:30pm from the Longport Bridge to

Tennessee Ave.

, along the bay. This is such a treat for locals and visitors alike. The boats are decorated in fun themes. The boats are separated into categories based on length and prizes are up for grabs for Best Decorated, Best Lighted, Most Original, and more. Don’t miss the Musical, Comical, and Children’s boats! If you’re going, get there extra early. The town will get really packed and traffic is a mess. If you don’t own a house on the bay, or know someone who does, finding a spot to see the parade can be quite a task. Bring quarters for meter parking.

Wildwood:

They have a bunch of events going on this weekend. One of them is The Antique Car Show on July 16th. The Jersey Cape Region Antique Automobile Club of America will sponsor an Antique Car Show 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on the boardwalk between 16th and 26th Avenues in North Wildwood. Bring quarters for the meters, or if spending the day try parking at a lot a few blocks from the boardwalk. It frees you from feeding the meter, and they offer all day rates. Parking closer could result in double fees, one for daytime hours and another fee for parking after 5pm.

My suggestions for this week are the beach all the way, baby. Imagine the warm sand, the hot sun, and a perfect cool breeze that passes over you, giving you goose bumps. Night time temp is in the high 60’s which on fresh sunburn or tanned skin can feel chilly. Don’t forget a jacket for night time. If you’re not up for big crowds, avoid the main attractions. Each city offers its own free night time beach concerts and events for the kids. Check their website calendars for details.

My Beach tips:

Swimming in the salty ocean can make your hair feel stringy, and dry. Take some Moroccan oil to the beach with you. When you’re ready to come out of the water, and tan, just rub a small palm full in your hair. Wrap your hair in a bun or cover it up with a bandana or scarf to protect it from the suns harmful rays.

Kids at the beach equal sand, sand, and sand. Take some baby powder with you. Sprinkle baby powder generously on sandy parts and rub in, then watch the sand just fall away.

My money saving local tip is get your beach toys at a dollar store or a 5 below. Try to hit one of those stores on your way into town. Once you’re in town you’re at the mercy of the local merchants who can charge a small fortune for a bucket and shovel.
