Trendy Thursday: Mom’s Night Out with J.Crew!

Chester County Mom’s & J.Crew of Britton Lake Concordville, PA will celebrate Mom’s Night Out tonight! Each Mom has an opportunity to work with the J.Crew Personal Shopper Lauren Gutting. I caught up with Lauren Gutting to get the scoop on what inspires her styling techniques as well the benefits of styling with a Personal Shopper.

CCM: How did you become a Personal Shopper?
LG: I was a sales associate for a year with the company and realized I would like to do more with sales & styling. After successfully venturing into planning mini shop and shares for friends and neighbors this path lead me to becoming a J.Crew Personal Shopper.

CCM: Explain the benefits of working with a Personal Shopper?
LG: Your Personal Shopper will pull the season’s key pieces and coordinate outfits to fit your personal style. Integrating your wardrobe with the latest looks. Your shopper will navigate the store with you, find sizes, and fashion outfits for a special occasion while focusing on flattering pieces that define your body type.

CCM: How do you prepare for your clients?
LG: Once I know my client’s conservative or high fashion desires, their specific likes and dislikes and sizes, I will pull clothing based upon their preferences or upcoming events. I usually know which J.Crew styles they have previously purchased so I am able to define their needs with the key pieces for each season.

CCM: How long do you spend with each client?
LG:
About an hour and a half, some clients make last minute appointments; some drop in prior to picking up their kids from school. Others stop in on their lunch breaks or after work. I am available for day and evening appointments.

CCM: Name your three favorite pieces for Spring/Summer 2011?
LG: WHITE DEMIN JEANS, available this season in a variety of cuts such as boot cut, matchstick, or toothpick! The CASHBAH PAISLEY perfect shirt in shades of green and blue, this pattern is also available in a strapless dress and scarf. Also a must, the gorgeous CECILIA DRESS, a 50’s style inspiration in orange, bright blue and white.

CCM: Which three fashion tips do you most often tell your clients?
LG: SHOP FOR YOUR BODY TYPE; the latest trends aren’t great for all body types and you don’t need to force it. SHOP FOR THE SEASONS STAPLES; Splurge on staples not trends, staples are key and spruce up the trends. Finally, ACCESSORIZE, ACCESSORIZE, ACCESSORIZE! An outfit is never complete without a finishing touch, whether your attire is casual or dressy. Select one focal point like a statement necklace but skip the bracelet so your outfit does not look over done.

CCM: What is the key ingredient to shopping successfully?
LG: If you don’t feel comfortable in what you are wearing or hesitate to buy it, send it back to the racks! You don’t want to go home and question why did I buy that? If I have personally worked with a client I would never want them to feel like they were convinced to buy an item. Instead you should want to rush home to try everything you purchased and LOVE it all over again!

CCM: What do you love most about being a Personal Shopper?
LG: Getting to know the men, women & kids I style. My predominant clients are fantastic women reigning from a variety of backgrounds, each with their own unique style & personalities. I have had the opportunity to shop with clients for new wardrobes after tremendous weight loss, created versatile casual business to weekend wear for teachers, cleverly suited corporate climbers, style for special occasions, accessorize bridal jewelry, plan honeymoon attire, outfit families for portraits as well as helped cancer patients find expressive scarves and hats. A great day at the office is the moment a client looks in the mirror and lights up at their reflection. They feel good and their happiness makes me feel good too.

If you cannot join the fun with this Thursday give Lauren a call or stop in to make an appointment for your J.Crew personal shopping experience! J.Crew of Briton Lake in Concordville, PA 19331, 484-840-1410.
