Don’t Throw it Away…Plant Seeds!

Here are a couple of tips for planting seeds. First, when you want to plant some seeds place the seeds in a cup of water over night. If they sink to the bottom, then they are ready to be planted, if they are at the top of the cup floating, then the seeds are ready…for the TRASH!

Here are some every day, around the house (actually the fridge) containers you can use for planting the seeds. You can use egg cartons, yogurt cups, milk cartons, laundry scoops and even deli contains. The deli containers are especially great for herbs, like dill, rosemary or basil, because the container, used with the lid will act as a greenhouse (sunlight goes through the container and moisture is then kept inside)! Once you have planted the seeds in your container, place the container where it can get LOTS of SUNLIGHT!

Before you plant your seeds, you can always decorate your container with the kids. 2 Activities in one…one can be done on a rainy day, the other can be done on a nice, sunny day outside!
