Betty Crocker Boxed Instant Mashed Potatoes – Review and Giveaway

Growing up, my father always made us mashed potatoes from ‘scratch’.  I am pretty certain he scoffed once or twice at the mere mention of boxed mashed potatoes.  Boy, times have changed!

With our family’s busy lifestyle, it is a meal saver when I can find something that is not only quick to make, but tasty as well. I have tried the boxed Au Gratin potatoes before (one of my favs!), but never the new Betty Crocker Instant Mashed potatoes. On Sunday night, this box of instant potatoes came in handy as I had completely forgotten to make a side to go along with our grilled chicken.  Hubby was nearly ready to take the chicken off the grill when I realized my time was limited in what I could prepare.  It was so handy to have this right in the pantry, awaiting just such a moment.

As the product literature suggests, the potatoes do cook in about 8 minutes.  In my haste, I accidentally put the milk in with the water to boil, but it really did not make a noticeable difference to us.  I had never really made instant mashed potatoes before, so I was a little surprised when I added the mix into the pot and Voila! the potatoes were, ehm, instantly done (ok, you can laugh at me at that one)!  The potatoes even reheated well when I had leftovers the next afternoon for lunch.  The consistency was very similar to real mashed potatoes, and the flavor was great and the time it saved in preparing was even better.

We were also provided the Roasted Garlic flavor which had a little more ‘kick’ to it.  I would probably opt for this flavor just because I am used to adding more spices to our food.  I am definitely keep a box handy for another hectic night’s dinner preparation!
